Outsider/Insider: David Hall with Old Growth
August 20, 2010 1 Comment
Here at Outsider Music Press we want to hear what you have been listening to in the underground music scene. This week David Hall from Portland, OR brings Northwest heros, Old Growth into the Outsider/Insider spotlight!.
David says: “Lately I’ve been listening to Under the Sun by Old Growth. Old Growth
is a [Portland] band that plays rock n roll that’s pretty straight ahead
with strong punk influences. I like ‘em because they really crank out
some serious early punk rock vibe, except with more melody, better
lyrics, and with something to say. Their sound reminds me a lot of the
early punkers Richard Hell and the Voidoids, but with the sincerity of
an electric non-wimpy Neil Young. And they do seem sincere; no false
notes on this one, no self indulgent claptrap, they have a deliberate
and steady point of view that rings true, and that they maintain for
the whole album. They put out Under the Sun last year, and I have it
on good authority that a new album is coming soon. Can’t wait.

Awesome write up of Old Growth! Heard a few unfinished tracks recently, and they were way rockin’. I can’t wait for the new one either.
