Carrie Brownstein’s perfect life…and “The Perfect Song”…

Carrie Brownstein is an over achiever – or at least busy as shit. Her celebrity star began to rise in the mid-nineties when she played guitar in the noteworthy Northwest band, Sleater Kinney. After nearly 10 years of rockin’, the band broke up, but Brownstein wouldn’t retreat to the shadows. Instead, she wrote music criticism for NPR, and even did community service by volunteering at the Oregon Humane Society. According to a recent article in the Willamette Week, she took a sabbatical from Portland to New York City, to live the writers life, and compose the beginnings of a memoir (details still need to unravel).

Currently, she is reviving her own music career in Wild Flag, who are on tour now. She also collaborated with SNL comic, Fred Armisen, on a video project called ThunderAnt. The online shorts were so good they pitched a deal to IFC for a new television series, Portlandia, and won.

Until Portlandia airs in January check out back episodes of ThunderAnt to get a taste of what is in store. One of my favorite episodes is called “The Perfect Song” – a hilarious songwriting workshop Fred and Carrie conduct via phone messaging – perhaps to compensate for their busy schedules. However, do beware: you may end up like my wife and I who often get sing-song tidbits stuck in your head for days on end…
